Stipe Miocic “100 Percent” Happy With UFC 226 Payday

Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier UFC 226

In recent days, several fighters have been irked by the UFC. From the past couple of years, UFC heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic was unhappy regarding monetary compensation with UFC, during each of his title defenses with knockouts against Alistair Overeem at UFC 203 and Junior dos Santos rematch at UFC 211, it was champion who made the smaller purse. His relationship got more strained with the company, after finding out Overeem earned $200,000 more than him despite winning the contest.

Miocic is finally getting a recognition which he always craved for, recently coached opposite light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier on The Ultimate Fighter and features in a Modelo ad. For the first time in his career, Miocic revealed UFC 226 payday is the biggest payday of his career and content with the state of his relationship with his employers, said during a pre-fight media scrum in Los Angeles. “Dana and I, we talked that stuff out and it worked out great,” Miocic told reporters Monday. When asked if the Cormier fight represents the biggest payday of his career, he added “100 percent.”

Miocic was hoarse in his voice says he also understands the transition phase that the company had gone through from when WME-IMG purchased it in July 2016, that may have affected many fighters in compensation wise.

“A lot has changed,” Miocic said. “I think it had a lot to do with the change in the company too, they were stuck in their transition. I’m just, I was stuck when they sold the company, they were looking for what’s good for them, but I understand that. They spent a lot of money, they spent four billion dollars it’s not like ‘ahh, sure guys.’ it’s a little bit different than that. They made it right and it was all good.”

Miocic will defend his title for the fourth straight time against Cormier this Saturday. UFC 226 PPV event is set to take place (Sat, July 7, 2018) from Las Vegas.
