Stephen Thompson Accepts Anthony Pettis’ Welterweight Call Out: ‘Let’s Do It’

‘Wonderboy’ Accepts Challenge From Anthony Pettis

This Friday former UFC lightweight champion and WEC titleholder Anthony Pettis took to social media and asked fight fans if they want to see him climbed up to welterweight for a potential showdown with Stephen Thompson.

“Heard somebody is looking for a fight. What do you guys think?” Pettis wrote on a post accompanied by an image of himself and Thompson. “Take my talents to WW and take on the boy?”

To remind you, Pettis has never fought at welterweight but once run for a belt at featherweight back in 2016. It didn’t take long for a former two-time UFC welterweight title challenger Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson to accepts Pettis challenge and said let’s do it.

For the fans! If @showtimepettis wants to come try out 170 y’all know I’m ready. We both got highlight reels, let’s do it!

Thompson (14-3-1) last fought in May where he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Darren Till at UFC Liverpool. Before his setback, Thompson scored a unanimous decision win over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 217. ‘Wonderboy’ was linked to a fight with Robbie Lawler this year but ‘Ruthless’ went on to welcome Ben Askren to the Octagon at UFC 235.

Meanwhile, Pettis (21-8) is coming off a second-round TKO loss to Tony Ferguson at UFC 229 on Oct. 6. “Showtime” is now 3-3 over his past six fights, scores wins over the likes of Michael Chiesa, Jim Miller, and Charles Oliveira during that time.

It seems like to two of best strikers in MMA are more than ready to face each other inside the Octagon. If this intriguing matchup comes to fruition, it’d be one hell of fireworks.
