Song Yadong submitted Deiveson Figueiredo with a guillotine choke at 4:42 of Round 2 in the UFC Macau main event at Galaxy Arena.

Song entered the fight coming off a decision loss to Sean O’Malley at UFC 324. Figueiredo, a former two-time UFC flyweight champion, came in trying to keep his bantamweight title hopes alive after recent losses to Cory Sandhagen, Petr Yan, and Umar Nurmagomedov.

Figueiredo landed the cleaner shot in Round 1, catching Song with a right hand across the chin while mixing in body kicks. Song answered with low kicks and defended multiple takedown attempts, though a slip off a leg kick allowed Figueiredo to jump into guard late in the round.

Song Turns Figueiredo’s Shot Into The Finish

Song found better timing in Round 2. He landed a counter right, connected with a hard straight right, and kept attacking Figueiredo’s lead leg. Figueiredo shot late in the round, and Song immediately wrapped the neck for the guillotine.

The finish gives Song a clean rebound over a former UFC champion after high-level bantamweight fights with O’Malley, Henry Cejudo, Petr Yan, and Cory Sandhagen. It was also Song’s first submission win in the UFC since his 2017 promotional debut against Bharat Kandare.

Figueiredo’s bantamweight run gets harder to sell after this one. He moved up in 2023 and had early success, but the recent stretch now includes losses to Sandhagen, Yan, Umar, and Song, with only a split decision win over Montel Jackson breaking up the skid.

Song should stay in the ranked bantamweight mix after finishing a former champion in a main event. Figueiredo, now 38, needs a reset fight if he continues at 135 pounds.
