August 17th is the date in which FOX intends to compete with ESPN, Sky Sports, Sportsnet — essentially every other station with a sports-centric theme, and we can do nothing but wait. They’re throwing the manifesto at us, and all we can do is patiently count the days until FOX Sports 1 arrives at our digital doorstep.
Most people believe that just because you already have the SPEED channel in your lineup, when the re-branding happens you’ll instantly get FOX Sports 1. However this is not the case. According to @MMASupremacy, in order for FOX Sports 1 to be profitable, they have to increase their subscriber fees, which triggers re-negotiations with carriage providers. FOX Sports 1 is hoping to be profitable in 2-3 years from its August 17th launch. As of today, Fox Sports 1 has not made deals with DirecTV, Dish, or Time Warner, which is roughly 45 million homes. Basically what we’re trying to say is that on FOX Sports 1’s launch next month, there’s a good chance you won’t even see it.
Since that may be the case for many of you, the best you can do is watch this FOX Sports 1 trailer of the upcoming station — and LOL at GSP getting taken down.
