So here’s what’s sort of official for Strikeforce’s April 9th show

As I sit here this morning, sipping tap water from Fedor’s holographic head, I came to the realization that if you utilize a collector’s cup instead of collecting a collector’s cup, then it reduces the level of ‘geek’ that can be associated with you. Sure it’s slick to have Randy Couture and Fedor Emelianenko endlessly punching depending on what angle you view the cup, but if you’re not putting liquid in that thing, you’re cheating yourself. Don’t be that guy, and above all else, don’t be that guy who believes that Strikeforce can’t have an event in San Diego on April 9th — because by the end of this story, you’re going to look silly.

Although April 9th was slated to be the second leg of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand-Prix, the card was moved to June 18th for the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX which will undoubtedly make a lot of 972ers out there very ecstatic. Sure you can blame Josh Barnett for not handling the California State Athletic Commission properly, but some of that finger pointing will have to be directed in Japan’s general direction. Real Entertainment and Scott Coker just couldn’t come to an agreement, and according to this article by Zach Arnold of FightOpinion, perhaps it’s better for Strikeforce.

The unofficial card for the official Strikeforce April 9th show appears to be a double-main event. Gilbert Melendez vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri and Nick Diaz vs. Paul Daley will both be title bouts in their respective division. It also seems that Hiroyuki Takaya may move up in weight to fight Shinya Aoki in the lightweight division. Now that KJ Noons stated his plan to move to the 155lb division and also confirmed he will be on the April 9th show, a showdown between Josh Thomson doesn’t seem that unlikely. That’s four incredibly competitive matches all confined within one San Diego card. It’s not the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand-Prix round we hoped for, but the fact that two DREAM champions may be competing against each other and on American soil should make you wildly grin — and it tells you a lot about the state of Japanese MMA.

Update: ESPN’s Josh Gross is reporting that Gegard Mousasi vs. Mike Kyle will be on the April 9th San Jose card. Intense.
