Shaquille O’Neal thinks Conor McGregor can become a UFC champion again.

‘The Notorious’ last fought in July 2021, losing against Dustin Poirier for the second consecutive time. The former two-division UFC champion also suffered a severe leg injury, leading to a lengthy recovery and uncertainty in his fighting career.

Now that McGregor is expected to make his Octagon return in 2023, there have been debates about the success he will have. During an interview with InsideFighting, O’Neil showed support for ‘The Notorious’ by saying this about his future in the UFC:

“I expect a great show. He’s always been a great showman. He’s always been a great competitor. Me and him have the similar type blood. When you doubt us, that’s when we rise. They doubted him, he went to the top, took a couple of bumps, went away for a while, he trained. He’s looking real good… Of course, I know he will [be a champion again].”

McGregor’s next UFC fight will most likely be against Michael Chandler. The two UFC superstars have been announced as the coaches for The Ultimate Fighter Season 31, scheduled to air later this year. Dana White has confirmed they will fight after the season at 155 pounds.

Shaquille O’Neal sees Nate Diaz not backing down from Canelo Alvarez in a boxing match

Shaquille O’Neal weighed in on another combat sports superstar during his interview with InsidFighting. Nate Diaz parted ways with the UFC after defeating Tony Ferguson in September 2022. The Stockton native hopes to utilize his star power by competing in various super fights, including a potential boxing match against Canelo Alvarez.

O’Neil was asked who Diaz should fight next and how he would fare against Alvarez. The NBA legend responded by saying:

“Whoever he wants to… He ain’t gonna back down [from Canelo Alvarez], I know that… That’ll be a nice fight.”

It’s unclear what’s next for Diaz. He initially seemed focused on boxing Jake Paul, but the former YouTuber has an upcoming fight against Tommy Fury. Meanwhile, the Stockton native has hinted at several other possibilities, but nothing has materialized publicly. Only time will tell what’s next for one of the biggest MMA superstars on the planet.
