Before we get into the mechanics of del Rosario in the UFC, let’s first explore the possibility that Shane del Rosario could be the greatest heavyweight in MMA and no one even knows (except him, of course). In Shane’s five-year MMA career, he’s riding an 11-0 record by finishing every fight in the first round. Well, except one fight. He managed to finish that bout in the second via a flurry of punches on a ShoXC card back in 2008. The last time we saw an undefeated Shane this dominant in the heavyweight division make the transition to the UFC, he managed to win the UFC heavyweight interim belt. Some would even argue that Shane Carwin’s title fight against Brock Lesnar should have been stopped in the first round, however revisions to MMA history only happen in intoxicated conversations that take place at odd hours on the weekends.
According to Spencer Lazara from MMAInterviews, Shane del Rosario is the next heavyweight to make the geometrical transition from hexagon to octagon. Let’s hope this guy did decent on the math portion of his SAT. Keep in mind this comes just months after we published a story of how some drunk driver slammed into del Rosario while he was parked at a red light. The injuries he sustained were so severe that it was questionable whether Shane del Rosario could continue to compete in MMA again. Fortunately, Shane del Rosario is half-Filipino which grants him a natural healing factor, Omega Red style. No opponent has been set for Shane’s UFC debut, but I would be perfectly happy with him taking on the winner of Lesnar vs. Reem. Yeah, that’s right.
