Sean Strickland believes “wokeism” has killed comedy.
Strickland, who has never shied away from sharing his politically incorrect and often revolting views on a number of subjects, thinks today’s generation is entirely too soft. Taking to social media, the former middleweight champ reminisced of a time when you could trash-talk and mock your friends in a way that would be considered offensive by today’s standards.
“Woke-ism ruined comedy,” Strickland wrote on X. “Back in the fubu generation we would all make fun of each other face to face in friendly gathering. White, black, gay. Not trans because that didn’t exist but it was a good time. Now “no no no I’m not racist, I don’t see color, you’re Hitler obviously.””

The term “woke” rose to prominence during the Black Lives Matter movement and was used as a call to recognize and combat police brutality and systemic racism. Its meaning has since expanded to encompass a slew of progressive political concerns surrounding race, gender, and sexual orientation.
However, “woke” has also been weaponized by political conservatives in recent years, labeling it as a far-left ideology that aims to discriminate based on perceived injustices.
Sean Strickland Takes a Dig at Trump Supporter Nina-Marie Daniele
Even if Strickland can’t run around calling people a variety of slurs in today’s climate, ‘Tarzan’ appears to have found one person willing to take his abuse with a smile.
Last month, Strickland’s friend and UFC interviewer Nina-Marie Daniele shared a picture of herself at the Republican National Convention. There, Daniele expressed her support for former U.S. president Donald Trump who received the GOP’s nomination for the third time at the event.
Seeing a golden opportunity to strike, the ex-titleholder responded to her post in the most Strickland-esque of ways.
Didn't think they let Mexicans in the RNC….. "excuse me senorita the cleaning crew doesn't come till after the white men leave" lmao https://t.co/c5ERTuv2Gx

“Didn’t think they let Mexicans in the RNC….. “excuse me senorita the cleaning crew doesn’t come till after the white men leave” lmao,” he quipped.
Of course, Daniele is not Mexican. She’s actually French and Italian—something she has reminded Strickland of on several occasions.
