- Sean Strickland thinks Khalil Rountree wouldn’t be able to handle Alex Pereira in standup and on the ground
- “Tarzan” wants “Poatan” to let him fight Dricus du Plessis first
Sean Strickland is certain Khalil Rountree wouldn’t stand a chance against Alex Pereira at UFC 307.
Khalil doesn’t have the tools
Speaking to Helen Yee Sports from Salt Lake City, “Tarzan” was asked to share his early UFC 307 main event prediction. According to Strickland, “The War Horse” may have done a remarkable job stopping Anthony Smith but he doesn’t have anything in his bag that could beat “Poatan” both on the feet and on the ground.
”I just can’t see Khalil [Rountree Jr.] pulling it off…I think I may have watched him fight Anthony Smith, I just can’t see it happening. I don’t think he has the tools in the toolbox to beat Alex [Pereira]. He’s not knocking him out, he’s not outstriking him, he’s not outwrestling him,” the former middleweight champion assessed.
Ultimately, Strickland sees Pereira dominating Rountree without breaking a sweat.
“I think Alex is going to make easy work of this fight,” Strickland predicted.
Sean wants Alex to stay out of 185 for now
Regardless of what happens at UFC 307, Pereira insisted that he would come back down to 185 to dethrone Dricus du Plessis. The Brazilian appears to be determined to return to middleweight and even plans to stay there for his next fights.
As for Strickland, he is very likely to be Du Plessis’ next title challenger but he is requesting Pereira to not get in his way and let him have his rematch with “Stillknocks” first.
Pereira will try to defend his light heavyweight title for the third time, while Rountree will make the best out of his opportunity to become the new light heavyweight champion. UFC 307 will take place on Oct. 5th at Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
