Sean Strickland saw Ian Machado Garry taking heat during UFC 330 fight week and decided to pour gasoline with both hands. The UFC middleweight champion jumped on X on Friday, hours before Garry challenges Islam Makhachev for the welterweight title, and unloaded on the Irish contender’s public image like he was trying to win a trash-talk speedrun.
Strickland’s post came after Garry spent the week dealing with crowd backlash, press conference noise, and the usual internet circus that follows him everywhere. The timing was not subtle. UFC 330 lands Saturday, August 15, at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, and Garry is trying to turn the loudest week of his career into a belt.

The beef is not brand new either. Strickland has taken shots at Garry before, and Garry has been one of the UFC’s easiest lightning rods for a while now. Some fighters get booed because they are boring. Garry gets booed because people keep finding new arguments about him, his interviews, his family life, his confidence, and anything else they can grab with both hands.
The problem for Makhachev is that none of that makes Garry any less dangerous. Garry is unbeaten in the UFC, huge for welterweight, and has been selling the idea that he can ruin the champion’s second-division title run before it even gets comfortable. Makhachev, meanwhile, is trying to defend the 170-pound belt for the first time after moving up from lightweight, which is already a high-wire act without a loud challenger yapping at every microphone.
Fight week has already had plenty of weird heat. Khabib Nurmagomedov had to tell Makhachev to be quiet after the press conference got chippy, and Garry has kept leaning into the villain role even as he argues the double-champ era has lost some shine.
That is where Strickland’s tweet fits. It does not change the matchup, the stakes, or the title picture, but it adds another log to a fire that was already chewing through the room. Garry still has to solve Makhachev in the cage. Strickland just made sure the outside noise follows him all the way to the walkout, because apparently UFC 330 needed one more guy shouting from the balcony.
