Sean O’Malley recently opened up about his attempts to slide into the DM’s of the ‘Hawk Tuah’ girl, Hailey Welch.
After her viral “spit on that thang” video made her a social media sensation overnight, Welch launched her own YouTube channel and an accompanying podcast appropriately titled Talk Tuah. During a recent episode, Welch revealed that the former UFC bantamweight champion attempted to call her five times on social media.

Welch was quick to point out that O’Malley came off as “nice” and that the messages he sent were innocent. Still, fight fans were left wondering what prompted ‘Sugar’ to message her in the first place—aside from potentially wanting her to “spit on that thang.”
Sean O’Malley Reveals His Messages Were the Result of an OxyContin High
During an episode of his TimboSugarShow podcast, O’Malley offered some insight into why he attempted to reach out to Welch, blaming it on a post-surgery OxyContin high.
“He was trying hard for her and she was like ‘What?’” O’Malley’s coach Tim Welch said with a laugh.
“Nah, so what happened … so I was on OxyContin,” O’Malley began. “It was the night, it was the day of my surgery or the next day. So I was on OxyContin. I was live on Twitch. I was live on Instagram. And I was trying to call people to freestyle [rap].”
“And I’m just f*cked up. I’m on OxyContin. The boys are higher than a kite. And I called Adin Ross, Steve WillDoIt. I was calling a bunch of people to freestyle, and they wanted me to call Hawk Tuah girl.”

Not long after his loss to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 306 in September, O’Malley revealed that he had suffered a torn labrum weeks prior to fight night and was scheduled to undergo surgery in early October to repair it.
As a result, ‘Sugar’ is expected to be on the shelf for the next 6-8 months, though some estimate that it could be as long as a year before we see the ex-champ back inside the Octagon.
