Sean O’Malley apologized to Pedro Munhoz for the eye poke in their latest encounter at UFC 276.

This past Saturday, top ten ranked contender at bantamweight Pedro Munhoz took on Sean O’Malley in a major jump up in competition for the rising star. Although the fight was competitive Munhoz appeared to be in control and ahead on the judges’ scorecards for as long as it went on. Two of the three judges had scored the first round for Munhoz before the fight was stopped in the second.

An eye poke from O’Malley left the Brazilian unable to continue.

Pedro Munhoz believes Sean O’Malley did not eye poke him on purpose

In an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Pedro Munhoz talked about his latest bout with ‘Suga’ Sean. When asked whether he believed O’Malley did the eye poke on purpose, Munhoz responded to the contrary.

“He didn’t do it on purpose. But also, a lot of his actions after the fight were things that I don’t think is right based on my values.”

He believes he was just getting into the rhythm of the fight and was frustrated with the result. Munhoz is eager to get a rematch as he believes O’Malley is good, but not better.

O’Malley apologized to Munhoz before making fun of him online

‘The Young Punisher’ revealed that O’Malley apologized to him following the foul. He was respectful and even called Munhoz a legend before taking to his TikTok to make fun of his latest competitor.

“He came and apologized to me and then he made a video on TikTok making fun of my video. So you apologize to me for poking me (in the eye) because he realized it. He came up to me and said, ‘I didn’t mean to poke you in the eye.’ I say, ‘I know you didn’t mean to poke me in the eye, we can run this back anytime.’ He said, ‘you’re a legend.’

“There was something that happened in my eye that you poked accidentally but then you go make fun, that’s kinda like the things that I tell my kids not to do. You say one thing and then you go make fun on the other hand.”

O’Malley currently sits outside the rankings and was competing against Munhoz as a test. With an anticlimactic end to their contest, we could see them running it back after Munhoz recovers.
