Sean O’Malley Believes Aljamain Sterling Isn’t Capable Of Knocking Him Out: ‘I’m Gonna Knock This Fool Out Cold’

Sean O'Malley is confident that his UFC 292 opponent, Aljamain Sterling, doesn't have the same finishing ability he has.

Sean O’Malley doesn’t think Aljamain Sterling is capable of knocking him out.

On August 19, O’Malley has the opportunity to continue evolving into a worldwide superstar by becoming a UFC champion. It’ll be easier said than done, as Sterling has proved the doubters wrong by defending his bantamweight title three times against Petr Yan, TJ Dillashaw, and Henry Cejudo.

O’Malley has stayed consistent with his prediction of a knockout win against Sterling. During a recent episode of the BrOMalley Show, ‘Sugar’ had this to say about ‘Funk Master’ being unable to knock him out:

“I’m gonna knock this fool out cold, but, yes, if I could take his back and choke him, I would… I know I’m capable of putting someone’s lights out. I just don’t think he [Sterling] is. He knows what he’s capable of doing. He knows how good of a grappler he is. He knows he can go in there, take someone down, try to get their back, choke them, finish them, get them out of there. I know I’m very, very, very capable of knocking him out with a ton of different weapons.”

O’Malley last fought in October 2022, defeating Petr Yan by a split decision. Since then, the number two-ranked UFC bantamweight has been waiting for his title shot. Meanwhile, Sterling is coming off a split-decision win against Henry Cejudo on May 6. He now turns things around quickly to defend his throne once again.

Sean O’Malley lists weird sh*t he’s been doing during his training camp

If the UFC 292 main event goes past the third round, Sean O’Malley will be in unfamiliar territory. The 28-year-old has never been pushed through a five-round fight, which could be a difference-maker against Aljamain Sterling.

During the same podcast episode, O’Malley had this to say about what he’s been doing in his training camp besides preparing for championship rounds:

“Situps, dude, situps all day, all f*cking day… I’ve just been hitting a lot of situps all day. I wake up, 2 a.m., shadowbox for 25 minutes straight just to get my mind right, just in case… 2 a.m., wake up, set an alarm, go in the cold plunge for an hour and a half, get out, go in the hot tub, shadowbox in the hot tub, water resistance… I’ve just been doing some weird sh*t just to get my mind right. I got a horse, been going horseback riding lately.”

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, O’Malley is currently a +215 betting underdog, with Sterling as a -255 favorite. Only time will tell if ‘Sugar’ can make history inside the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
