Say it ain’t so, Takanori Gomi says he will stop drinking if he gets a title shot

Bill Gates didn’t make Microsoft Word. Every late 80s rapper did. Some people probably won’t understand that. It’s cool. You will just have to listen to Takanori Gomi’s iPod and read that sentence again. Gomi digs his hip-hop as much as you dig not getting hit in the face in a dark alley. The fact that The Fireball Kid has every Wu album and can quote Ghostface Killah like biblical scripture should elevate him to the top of your favorite fighters list (right next to Wallid Ismail). Still, regardless of Gomi’s underground hip-hop IQ, it still won’t buy him a title shot against Anthony Pettis anytime soon. However after UFC 172, Gomi stated that if he was granted a title shot, he would give up drinking. Yeah, I can’t believe it either.

Probably my next fight will be the one in Japan in September. I’ll grab a glass of beer once and then get back to training camp. Every day I’m thinking about retirement, but I know there’s going to be fun out there waiting for me to fight, so I’m still fighting. If I get a title shot, I will quit drinking.

So a Takanori Gomi that doesn’t drink, it just doesn’t compute. May this .gif live on forever.
