Sam Alvey could potentially need his jaw wired shut after suffering a broken jaw at UFC on ESPN 40.

Sam Alvey Faces Potential Wired Jaw

The winless drought continued for Alvey this past weekend at UFC on ESPN 40, where the middleweight suffered a first-round TKO defeat to Michał Oleksiejczuk.

Alvey revealed on his TikTok profile that he suffered a broken jaw on the first punch landed in the fight. He added he may need to get his jaw wired shut as a result.

“I spent a lot of time last night thinking about this and I’ve finally accepted it myself,” Alvey said (via MMA Junkie). “I hope y’all forgive me but I am not the greatest fighter to have ever lived.

“To tell you, it hurts saying out loud. Oh, goodness. I was convinced I could beat anybody at anytime. I guess not.

“I would still say there’s not a person on the planet that likes doing this sport more than me. Although at this current moment, I have a broken jaw from the first damn punch he hit me with.

“Son of a b*tch. I’m likely getting my mouth wired shut. I’ve got to tell you, I wouldn’t have picked a different career if I had the opportunity years ago.”

Alvey hasn’t won in mixed martial arts (MMA) competition since 2018 when he scored a split decision win over Gian Villante.

The 36-year-old has been competing in the UFC since 2014. Throughout his run, he has also competed at light heavyweight.

As it stands, Alvey is not a ranked competitor at middleweight. It should be interesting to see what the UFC decides to do with him on his current eight-fight losing streak.

In addition to UFC on ESPN 40, Alvey has broken his jaw in the past. As Alvey trained for a fight against Daniel Sarafian at UFC Fight Night 82, he was kicked in the face by Sean Strickland. As a result of the injury, his jaw was shattered and he required six weeks of medical treatment. The liquid diet Alvey was required to follow during that period led him to lose approximately 30 pounds.
