Ryan Thomas snooped on McClintock’s Myspace page for a way to defeat him

There’s a little thing in Iceland called Eyjafjallajökull and without it wrecking absolute havoc on the entire European continent, the world would never have witnessed perhaps the first 360 degree spinning drop fist in MMA history. You’ve heard the story of the Icelandic volcano erupting last month which prevented Jim Wallhead from competing in Bellator’s welterweight tournament. Ryan Thomas received a last minute call to replace Wallhead in a fight with Jacob McClintock in Bellator 15, just days after the entire Askren/Referee fiasco at Bellator 14. Ryan accepted the fight and granted all of us that futuristic move that we all will eventually try out in our friend’s living room after a very long Saturday night. We asked Thomas what was going down that night in Chicago, Illinois and, like most things in this universe, it all originated on Myspace.

“I just kind of made it up [the spinning drop fist] on the spot. I couldn’t find much video on Jacob McClintock, I could find stuff of him grappling but I couldn’t find any fight videos and then finally on his Myspace page I found one fight where he was kind of getting beat up the whole fight getting ground and pounded, and the guy he was fighting stood up in his guard and McClintock up-kicked him in the face and it hurt the guy and he put him in an armbar and won. So I knew he had a good up-kick. So as I was ground and pounding McClintock, I stood up to get some more power in my punches and I saw him rearing back, looking to kick me so I just kind of spun around and I couldn’t even really see where I was punching but BAM and that was the beginning of the end for him. It was pretty cool.”

We also interviewed Ryan Thomas about his upcoming Bellator 19 rematch with Ben Askren this Thursday on Fox Sports Net but we didn’t feel like putting it here. Instead, we placed it here in an effort to make your brain implode inside your skull from sheer confusion. [Source]
