Ross Pearson knocks out Gray Maynard, who needs to hang ’em up

It’s clear that Frankie Edgar has Gray Maynard’s soul in a fancy receptacle placed in his trophy room along with his UFC titles and a jar of BJ Penn’s tears. Gray simply hasn’t been the same fighter since Frankie knocked him out all the way back at UFC 136. Since then, Gray has been violently knocked out three times in a row after winning his weird dance-off with Clay Guida that went down over two years ago. (How can someone get knocked out in a non-violent manner?)

Soul taking is a strange thing in MMA. We’ve seen Fedor take a number of souls, as well as Anderson Silva and BJ Penn. Not everyon can have a Shang Tsung-esque career in the Octagon, but it happens, and Frankie is right up there with the greats. Sadly for Gray, this has lead to a really rough past couple of years.

After getting straight merc’d by Nate Diaz in November, Gray knew he had to defeat Ross Pearson, but this was the worst possible outcome. For Gray’s own health and safety, dude needs to hang up the gloves and just stop getting knocked out. We know Gray as a good guy, and we don’t want to see him get hurt anymore.

For Pearson, it’s a big win after getting robbed by Diego Sanchez in June.

Here’s that replay. Thanks, Reddit!
