Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano did not need much cage time to put up a monster Netflix number.

Ariel Helwani reported that the MVP MMA 1 main event peaked at 17 million global viewers, per Netflix. The final three fights averaged 12.4 million viewers, while the domestic main card averaged 9.3 million viewers and peaked at 11.6 million during Rousey vs. Carano. According to the reported Netflix figures, that made it the most-watched MMA event ever in the United States.

The number is a major business win for MVP’s first MMA event. Rousey, the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion and 2008 Olympic judo bronze medalist, moved to 13-2 in MMA after submitting Carano in 17 seconds. Carano, who helped push women’s MMA into the mainstream through EliteXC and Strikeforce before her long layoff, fell to 7-2.

Helwani shared the numbers while reading from a statement attributed to Nakisa Bidarian and Jake Paul about the MVP MMA 1 results.

MVP Says Its First MMA Event “Exceeded Every Expectation”

Helwani read the statement from MVP’s leadership, which framed the Netflix debut as a launch point for the company’s MMA future.

“MVP’s first entry into MMA delivered on a massive global scale and exceeded every expectation we had for the launch of this new chapter of our business.”

The statement said the card crossed eight figures globally on Netflix.

“Over 12.4 million viewers around the world tuned in live on Netflix with viewership peaking at almost 17 million during the Rousey vs. Carano event, making it one of the most watched MMA events of all time.”

The domestic number was the strongest claim in the release.

“In the United States alone, the triple main card averaged 9.3 million viewers and peaked at 11.6 million viewers during the main event, making it the most watched MMA event ever in the U.S.”

MVP also pointed to social reach, gate, and commercial distribution around the event.

“The event also generated over 410 million impressions across MVP’s own social channels, a live gate exceeding 2.2 million, and saw terrific commercial premises distribution across bars, restaurants, casinos, and hospitality venues nationwide.”

The company thanked Netflix and the fighters before hinting that more MMA activity could be coming.

“We’re incredibly proud of what was accomplished alongside our partners at Netflix and grateful to the athletes who helped make MVP MMA’s debut such a success.”

“We’ve received an overwhelming amount of interest from investors, strategic partners, and fighters who want to be involved with MVP and the future of MVP MMA.”

“We are currently reviewing all strategic options to do something very meaningful within MMA on a go-forward basis with a distribution partner like Netflix that shares our vision to create lasting impact.”

Helwani was asked if MVP would be happy with the number.

“I think they’re happy. I don’t think they’re over the moon.”

“I think eight figures was the goal. So to be able to accomplish that, I think they’re happy, but I don’t think they’re dancing in the streets.”

Helwani compared the number to MVP’s bigger Netflix boxing business and said the platform clearly mattered.

“To have the most viewed MMA event on television is a significant thing. The power of Netflix is legit.”

The short main event likely capped the peak. Rousey submitted Carano almost immediately, giving Netflix a massive number without a long fight window.

“Imagine if it went two rounds. It would have probably hit that 20 million number.”

MVP MMA 1 also had seven-figure fighter payouts, a celebrity-heavy main event, and a Netflix distribution engine. The final three fights featured Francis Ngannou knocking out Philipe Lins, Mike Perry stopping Nate Diaz, and Rousey submitting Carano, which gives MVP a strong first data point if it keeps building MMA around Netflix.
