Daniel Rodriguez has been training with Tony Ferguson ahead of UFC 279.
Rodriguez returns to action for the first time in over a year when he takes on Kevin Holland in a welterweight bout at UFC 279 on September 10.
Co-headlining the event is a welterweight bout between Ferguson and Li Jingliang.
Ferguson has switched things up following his brutal knockout defeat to Michael Chandler back in May which made it four straight losses.
He is now training with other fighters, having notably linked up with Jackson-Wink MMA. Not to mention after competing at lightweight for so long, he will now be competing at welterweight.
Rodriguez got the chance to train alongside “El Cucuy” recently and revealed that he learned a lot from the former interim lightweight champion.
“I’ve learned a few things from El Cucuy,” Rodriguez told The Schmo. “He’s actually a really dope dude. Just up until recently, he started training with other fighters and I’m lucky and fortunate that he opened up to me and we were able to get some work in.
“He’s been working his ass off and it makes perfect sense that he would take a fight on short notice. It makes sense.”
Daniel Rodriguez: Tony Ferguson Has Put On Size
Ferguson will be competing at welterweight for the first time since 2011.
Although he is seemingly past his prime, it’s a good move at this stage given that he will benefit from cutting less weight and should pack more power.
Rodriguez notably added that Ferguson has also put on some size ahead of his welterweight return.
“He’s packed on some size, definitely for sure,” Rodriguez added. “He’s definitely going to be a threat in the welterweight division.”
