Ex-UFC Fighter Rodrigo de Lima Killed In Hit And Run Accident
Former UFC Welterweight Rodrigo de Lima has been struck and killed in Belem, Brazil. This comes following an argument between he and a rideshare driver.
Friend of the fighter and UFC welterweight Michel Prazeres told MMAFighting that the fighter was allegedly taking an Uber. However, it has yet to be confirmed by Uber that the driver was working for them at the time.
According to the report, de Lima got in an argument with the driver of the vehicle. The argument proceeded to get more heated. It was after this, that Rodrigo de Lima was kicked out of the car. The driver left, however returned shortly and allegedly struck Rodrigo from behind with his car.
According to Prazeres, authorities are currently searching for the driver of the vehicle. No information on the driver has been provided. Prazeres’s account of the situation has been confirmed by local news sources.
Rodrigo de Lima was married with two children; a five year old, and three month old. He was released from the UFC, following two losses to Neil Magny and Efrain Escudero. De Lima has also fought under the Bellator and Jungle Fights banners, however his most recent bout took place at Shhoto Brasil 85, in 2018. He won the bout against Luiz Fabiano via Rear Naked Choke in the first round. He had an MMA record of 9-3-1.
