Robert Whittaker Picking Israel Adesanya To Beat Jan Blachowicz: ‘His Striking Is Just So Much Better’

Robert Whittaker Gives His Prediction For Jan Blachowicz vs Israel Adesanya, Shares Thoughts On Adesanya's Recent Comments

Robert Whittaker Picking Israel Adesanya To Beat Jan Blachowicz: ‘His Striking Is Just So Much Better’

Middleweight champ Israel Adesanya recently opted for a move to light heavyweight to fight Jan Blachowicz, rather than have a rematch with Robert Whittaker. The former champ thinks Izzy can be successful in these champ-champ endeavors.

After he lost to Adesanya the first time, there was thought that Whittaker would never again be championship material. However he proved this to be somewhat overstated when he got back on the horse with back-to-back wins against Jared Cannonier and Darren Till, putting him right back into title contention. Yet surprisingly to some, he still decided to sit out the rest of the year rather than fight Adesanya, to the disgruntlement of Dana White.

Robert Whittaker Thinks Israel Adesanya Beats Jan Blachowicz

What did seem to come as a shock, was that Dana White announced that instead of rematching Robert Whittaker, Israel Adesanya would be moving to 205lb to fight newly minted champ Jan Blachowicz, in a champ-champ bout. The oddsmakers are putting the middleweight as an early favorite for this fight, and Rob tends to agree with that sentiment. Speaking recently in an interview, the former middleweight champ explained that he thinks Izzy’s superior striking skills will be too much for the Polish champion.

“Yeah I do (think Adesanya beats Blachowicz),” Whittaker said. “His striking is just so much better, I think. Jan’s got that big power, but Israel doesn’t really get hit that much. I think this is a picture perfect time for Israel to take that belt away from the division, for sure.”

Firing Back At Israel Adesanya

In the wake of Robert Whittaker getting a win over Jared Cannonier, Israel Adesanya expressed some disinterest in fighting Rob a second time. To the former middleweight champion, this makes a lot of sense. He does not blame the Last Stylebender for not wanting a rematch, and recognizes that it is his responsibility to work his way back to a title shot.

“Of course it doesn’t friggen excite him, he beat me,” Whittaker said, laughing. “It’s one of those things. Yeah I guess the ball’s in his court. He’s the champ, he beat me last time, so I’m hustling for a rematch like a salty kid. I don’t mind, it is what it is. Shouldn’t have lost the first time.

“I look forward to that rematch because as a fighter, as an athlete I want to try to get that back,” Whittaker continued. “I have that thing, that chip here that wants to run it back. But he’s looking really good. I think that’ll be a ridiculously hard fight.”

What do you make of these comments from Robert Whittaker? Do you think he and Israel Adesanya will fight again?
