A former UFC welterweight champion is surprised he is on the UFC 276 prelims, and you know what? So am I.

For the UFC fans that are not planning on purchasing the $79.99 UFC 276 pay-per-view, they are in for a treat as ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler is on the prelims for the first time in 20 years. The last time that Lawler was on the UFC prelims was way back at UFC 37 against Aaron Riley in his promotional debut. Lawler would win a unanimous decision and hasn’t seen the prelims since.

Well, that all changes next Saturday at UFC 276. Lawler faces Bryan Barberena in what could be the Fight of the Night but not on the main card. In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Lawler revealed he was surprised when he found out he was fighting on the prelims.

Surprised

“I’m not going to lie: I was surprised. I’m like, ‘OK, whatever.’ I get to get out of there earlier, which is nice. I wish they just put me first,” Lawler said. “Start the show and then get out. Maybe fly home.”

Lawler isn’t the only UFC legend that is on the prelims. Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone and Jim Miller also find themselves on the prelims. It just goes to show how completely stacked UFC 276 is for International Fight Week.

I come to fight

‘Ruthless’ faces Barberena and he says the fans should expect them to stand and bang, but he says maybe Barberna will shoot for a takedown.

There’s definitely no back story, but Bryan comes to fight, and that’s a pretty good story. I come to fight, and the fans are going to get what they love: two guys going out there looking for finishes standing up. You never know what’s going to happen. Maybe he’ll wrestle, but we’ll see. I’m excited to go out there and showcase my skills,” Lawler said.

Whatever happens…expect a memorable fight because both fighters are hardly ever in a boring fight.
