Robbie Lawler Takes High Ground In Beef With Colby Covington

Robbie Lawler is slated to face former training partner Colby Covington, next month. Despite this, ahead of the fight he is not feeding into Covington’s antics.

Lawler and Covington used to train together, at American Top Team, in Florida. However, recently Lawler departed from the camp, one he had been with for several years. Subsequently, when the bout was announced between these two, Covington was quick to attack Lawler for leaving the gym. Additionally, he went as far as saying that he wants to leave Lawler in a pool of blood.

Following these comments from Covington, Lawler responded. “Ruthless” spoke to Hot 97 about the comments made from Colby. Yet, one of the many differences between these two welterweights is Lawler’s lack of desire to trash talk. He took the high road, when responding to Colby’s statements.

“I think it’s just him talking. don’t really pay much attention to what anyone’s saying. I know why I left, and that’s all that matters. Every decision I’ve ever made in my life, I’m better for it. It’s all learning experiences, and I’m just here to fight. I’m not here to talk about the past. I’m here to get better, I’m here to grow and continue to grow at life and in the sport.”

This is not the first time Lawler has faced ATT fighters. Additionally, he lost his Welterweight Championship to Tyron Woodley, in 2016. However, he went on to compliment Colby, and the gym.

“I think he’s done a good job. He’s a hard-working guy. He’s got a lot of ability. I think he does a lot of good things, and he’s got a good camp behind him.”

Robbie Lawler vs Colby Covington takes place on August 3rd, in Newark NJ.
