It’s rare when a fight actually lives up to the UFC’s insufferable hype, but we knew that Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit would bring it, and bring it they did. Carlos Condit threw more punches then a spammer on EA UFC, and even knocked down Robbie in the first, but despite his extreme amount of activity, and in hitting Robbie maybe over 200 times, Lawler’s aggression and plain sledgehammer shots won him the split-decision. Rightfully so.
When Lawler threw, it was with Lawler intentions, which are worse than bad intentions. Lawler had Condit bloodied and dazed multiple times over and with an extremely strong fourth round that had Lawler against the cage trying to deal with Condit’s insane volume, he knew the fifth was going to be the final 5 minutes of his title reign unless he unleashed it all. And he did. Lawler had Condit reeling for most of the fifth, and pulled out the split.
