Rising Star Darren Till Shuts Down Critics Of UFC 228 Title Shot

Darren Till Shuts Down The Critics Of UFC 228 Title Shot

UFC tried to book Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington for headline bout at UFC 228, but ‘Chaos‘ was unable to fight at the proposed date due to nasal correction surgery said will return to Octagon by the end of this year. UFC couldn’t wait that long and went on to book Woodley vs. Till and Covington will be stripped of his title at the start of the fight.

During in his recent interview with MMAJunkie, Till expressed his frustration on the backlash he has received for accepting the title shot against Woodley:

“(UFC President) gave it to me, What do you want me to do? Just say no? Go, ‘Dana, it’s fine, I don’t want that title shot. Give it to someone else if they deserve it.’

“If Dana’s offering the title shot, I’m not going to say no, mate. This is what we do. MMA is good, and MMA fans are so amazing. But also, they can be toxic at the same time. Not just MMA fans – the fighters and people in general. When the UFC comes to me and offers me a shot,” Till said, “what the (expletive) do you want me to do?”

The primary complaint people have about Till is how badly he missed the weight in his previous fight against Stephen Thompson at UFC Liverpool, as it leads to add some concerns how he’s deserving of a title shot. Till said, he understands that point event he mentioned after ‘Wonderboy’ fight he’s not worthy of title fight next, but if company head offers you an opportunity how you can turn it down.

Till said, he got this opportunity during his recent trip to Las Vegas to meet Dana White, and the company at the time was struggling to look for headliner bout for UFC 228.

“Colby talks so much (expletive), and then when he was called to fight, he said, ‘I’m going to wait,’” Till said. “I don’t think it works like that. You can’t have your cake and eat it.”

“He has won the title,” Till added later. “He does deserve that shot, but the UFC, they’re not going to let him call the shots. It’s not for me to say. I’m just going off what the UFC and Dana want me to do. If they want me to fight for the title, I’m not going to say no, I’m upset.”

“I know a lot of people are going to say, (expletive) Colby, because of who he is and what he does,” Till said. “But at the end of the day, he earned his right. So as soon as I strip Tyron of his title, Colby and Usman, they’re the two first people who are getting a shot at it.”

Darren Till knows title shot comes with a lot of responsibilities and the main thing are to make a healthy weight, and it’s time to prove critics wrong.

“Everyone keeps going on with the weight, the weight, the weight,” Till said. “I’ve never seen someone get so much (expletive) for not making weight one time. It’s like I’ve never made weight. I can’t wait to come back and make the weight to be the new UFC welterweight world champion.”

Till said if he wins the title, he promises to make the first title defense against Covington if ‘Chaos’ is still on sidelines.

UFC 228 pay-per-view event is set to go down Saturday, September 8, 2018, in Dallas, Texas at the American Airlines Center.
