RIP Kamipro Magazine, you will forever be missed

Damn. Sometimes you can start off a story with one word and it has the ability to encapsulate an array of emotions. Unfortunately, the one emotion that ‘Damn’ doesn’t cover is the undying need to smash my head into an immovable object at the news that Kamipro Magazine is no more. We’re not sure if this move was initiated because magazines and other forms of print media are slowly transforming into fossilized methods of communication, or perhaps the end of Kamipro was due to the imminent collapse of Japanese MMA. Realistically, it can be a combination of all those things, and a few elements that we simply don’t know about. Regardless, it’s depressing news to say the least.

Kamipro, the premiere magazine for all things MMA in Japan, announced on their website that March will be their last month in print and that while their six-year long magazine will no longer exist, they will continue to have an online presence. That’s 157 issues, folks — a staggering number and perhaps one of the longest running magazines in MMA history.

From everyone at MiddleEasy, we want to say thanks for inspiring us to do a better job with your stellar creativity and although we don’t understand Japanese as much as we should, your stories and features transcended all languages. Everyone enjoyed your magazine covers (especially this one) and as you can tell from the multitude of articles we’ve composed from your work, we’re big fans.

Mata ne Kamipro.
