Grappling fans are you not entertained? On a weekend when Submission Underground, the Eddie Bravo Invitational and Metamoris held grappling events, maybe Garry Tonon’s feud with the Gracie run promotion almost flew under your radar. All was quite on the Metamoris front, all draws until the main event, then Tonon pulled some wizardry on the mat and Ralek Gracie was screaming in pain.
Weird to see where Metamoris has traveled over the last couple years heading into their seventh event. Once the hot new thing in the grappling world, both SUG and EBI vaulted passed the Gracie run sub-only event in terms of action and star attractions until maybe Tonon saved the day with rolling game of chess.
Watch the highlights and finish as Tonon slaps on a nasty knee bar on a helpless Gracie.
Lock out! Garry Tonon shows near perfect form in a variation of a knee bar attack last night in LA against Ralek Gracie. Such was the technical precision of the move that it got an instant tap against a very skilled opponent around 40pounds heavier than himself. It was nice to see Mr Tonon broadening his competition leg lock repertoire in such fine fashion. Touched down back in old NYC – heading straight to Renzo Gracie Academy from the airport to teach – perhaps kneebars from ushiro ashi garami might be the subject matter today 😉 photo by Scott Hirano
