Renato Moicano badly needed a win, and he got it in the main event at UFC Vegas 115. Against Chris Duncan, Moicano looked composed from the start, controlled the striking exchanges with his jab, disrupted Duncan’s kicking game, and kept him working in clinch positions until the opening for the finish finally appeared.
That was the important part of the fight. Duncan never looked comfortable. Moicano was first to the jab, sharper in close, and more efficient whenever the action got crowded. Duncan came in on a strong run and was fighting in his first UFC main event, but Moicano did not let him build any rhythm. That also made it a much better showing than his recent loss to Beneil Dariush.
Moicano controlled the fight before finishing it fast
The first round already showed where the fight was going. Moicano was reading the kicks, touching Duncan up with the jab, and forcing him to spend energy escaping tie-ups and fence pressure. By the second round, Duncan was reacting more than initiating, and Moicano looked fully in control of the pace.
Once Duncan got hurt, Moicano wasted no time. He dropped him, jumped on the back, and quickly turned the position into a submission. It was a clean veteran sequence, damage, transition, control, finish.

That result matters for Moicano because he came into this fight off losses to Islam Makhachev and Beneil Dariush. Another defeat would have pushed him deeper into the wrong side of the lightweight picture. Instead, he got the kind of rebound performance he needed and did it against a teammate who knew his habits well enough to make the matchup tricky.
For Duncan, it is a hard setback because this was a real chance to break through. He had momentum, he had the main-event slot, and he had a recognizable name across from him. Moicano shut that down before it could become his night. Duncan had looked dangerous in recent outings, including his submission win over Terrance McKinney, but Moicano kept him from getting that kind of fight.
That is why the win stands out. Moicano did not just get back in the column. He took control of the fight early, stayed disciplined, and closed it the moment Duncan gave him the opening. It also gave UFC Vegas 115 another strong finishing sequence alongside Tresean Gore’s comeback guillotine.
