Rafael Dos Anjos takes on short-notice replacement Renato Moicano at UFC 272. Moicano makes his return just 3 weeks after his last win and will be going 5 rounds with the former UFC Champion.
Round 1:
Fight begins. Moicano starts out with a lot of output on the feet. He clinches RDA up to the fence, looking for a takedown. He tries for a rear-naked choke but is unable to get it. They separate. RDA shoots for a takedown and gets the fight to the ground. Moicano gets back up after a few seconds.
RDA lands a headkick and then a knee to the body of Moicano. RDA shoots in for another takedown and gets it with ease. RDA looks to advance to a better position on Moicano. The former champ simply dominates on the mat, not giving Moicano any room to get up. He smothers the short-notice replacement for the final portion of the round.
Round 2:
The two exchange on the feet. RDA dips in for a takedown which is denied. RDA lands a big left hand on Moicano. Moicano also lands one of his own. RDA tries to drag Moicano to the feet, but Moicano stays up. They separate. RDA outboxes Moicano momentarily before getting another takedown.
Moicano breathes heavy as the former champ gets on top of him. RDA doesn’t do much work from top position, he’s just having his way with him. In the last 30 seconds, he amps up the ground and pound, delivering elbows to Moicano.
Round 3:
Moicano opens up with the jab. RDA punishes the body, landing punches and kicks. Moicano starts to put some combinations together, timing his uppercuts well. RDA launches a brutal headkick which sends Moicano stumbling to the ground. Moicano tries to survive but RDA rains down strikes from top. The ref keeps a close eye as Moicano suffers an onslaught.
RDA smothers Moicano on the ground, landing a few strikes. Round ends with Moicano’s bruised left eye nearly shut.
Round 4:
Moicano scraps up RDA pretty good with his boxing. RDA drives Moicano to the ground with a takedown. RDA controls Moicano on the canvas, right next to the cage. RDA lands some elbows on the head of his opponent. RDA goes for a guillotine nearing the last minute of the round. He lets it go.
RDA continues to slice up the head of Moicano with razor-like elbows. A pool of blood opens up on the head of the Brazilian prospect. They both get back up and finish the round on the feet.
Round 5:
Moicano receives a warning from the referee to show him he’s still in the fight or he’s going to stop it.
Moicano looks to make something happen on the feet. RDA lands crisp punches and then lands a headkick. The former lightweight kingpin then gets a takedown on Moicano. Moicano gets back to his feet, punishing RDA with shots of his own.
Moicano stuffs a takedown from RDA. Moicano lands a good 1-2 on RDA. RDA picks his shots, touching up Moicano. Moicano lands a good left hand on RDA. Moicano follows up with amazing combos which stun RDA. He backs RDA up, launching brutal shots after 4 losing rounds.
RDA closes the show with a clinch and a takedown attempt in the remains seconds of the fight.
