Jiri Prochazka is still wearing the fallout from UFC 327, and now one of the sport’s most recognizable coaches has piled on. After Prochazka got knocked out by Carlos Ulberg in the first round of their vacant light heavyweight title fight in Miami, the post-fight mess only got louder when Jiri’s side pushed the idea that he showed mercy after noticing Ulberg was hurt. That explanation already got scorched by Ulberg himself, and it also fits into the bigger wreckage left behind by Jiri Prochazka calling himself stupid after the UFC 327 loss and pushing for a rematch while Carlos Ulberg opened up on the finish, the injury talk, and the mistake Jiri made.

Ray Longo wanted no part of the mercy angle. Speaking on The Anik & Florian Podcast, Longo treated the whole thing like a blown title opportunity, not some noble act gone wrong. He also took a shot at the image Prochazka has built around himself for years, arguing that the eccentric stuff stops being entertaining when it bleeds into fight-night decisions.

Ray Longo unloaded on Jiri’s explanation

Longo said:

“I think we first have to discuss mental illness in MMA because something is—You know, it’s all funny when the guy’s praying up on Mount Olympus and standing on his head drinking his own piss, but this is what happens,” Longo said. “This is what happens. That poor guy was confused. I mean, like, ‘Mercy. Mercy.’ Dude, you blew the f*cking fight. You blew it! You blew it! You know, the guy wants to come back now say—You f*cking blew it! Holy shit, you’ve got to be kidding me.

Longo also added,:

“First of all, his first training should be to go watch The Karate Kid. You gotta be f**king kidding me. Are you crying because you lost? Or because you know how crazy that was?”

“I feel bad for Ulberg, I really do,” Longo said. “I feel bad for Carlos because it was a Hollywood movie-type script and he’s got to now think that this guy gave him a break because he had mercy on him and that somehow led to whatever happened, which who the hell knows what was going on. But with that being said, hat’s off to Ulberg, he did what he had to do. He could have stopped. He could have quit. He could have hobbled around, but he was going to fight to the very end and he deserves what he got.

“The other guy, I don’t know. He needs to talk to somebody, because that was ridiculous what I saw. Absolutely ridiculous. I know he’s a good guy and again, if you gave the guy mercy, then be happy. You did what you wanted to do. You let him off the hook. Don’t be mad about it. That should be a badge of honor for you, you didn’t want to hurt a guy that was injured. So leave it like that, but you can’t have it both ways, you can’t be unhappy and happy and whatever it is.”

Prochazka has already called for another shot after the loss, but Ulberg does not seem interested in running it back right away. That leaves Jiri talking about what happened in the cage while the new champion looks ready to move on.

The wider UFC 327 fallout has been moving fast too, from Ulberg winning the belt in Miami to Sean O’Malley roasting Jiri after the KO loss. For now, the rematch talk seems to be coming from only one side.
