- Raquel Pennington opened up about her interest in running it back with Julianna Pena
- “The Venezuelen Vixen” is focused more on a trilogy match with Amanda Nunes
Raquel Pennington refused to believe she lost to Julianna Pena and now wants a rematch.
‘Rocky’ wants to run it back
Pennington’s performance against Pena certainly wasn’t the best and wasn’t enough to convinced the judges. After five rounds, “Rocky” lost the bantamweight title to “The Venezuelan Vixen” via split decision but she is not leaving it as it is.
In a heartfelt statement on Instagram, Pennington called for a rematch with Pena before thanking all the people who supported her.
“I’m home and I’m healthy. My heart hurts but my head is high! I do not feel I lost that fight but this is just another wild detour in this journey of mine. I will be back better than ever,” Pennington wrote. “I want the rematch stat!”
“Regardless, I’m counting my blessings. What an amazing fight week, surrounded by so much love, support and blessings. Memories that will last a lifetime. I’m full of gratitude and I want to send a shout out to all the people who stand behind me. My entire family who has been my biggest support since day 1. All my close friends and to all my true fans out there I love each and every one of you. We will be back!!!”
Julianna is focused on Amanda
It is up to the UFC to decide whether or not Pennington earned the right to demand an instant rematch. Until then, Pena is now the women’s bantamweight champion once again and she only got her eyes locked on Amanda Nunes.
Many believe Kayla Harrison should be the rightful and fitting title challenger for Pena. However, “The Venezuelan Vixen” is more interested in settling the score with “Lioness” in a trilogy fight. For Pena, the only way she is considering fighting Harrison is when Nunes declines her challenge.
On the other hand, Nunes has already hinted at her desire to make a UFC return. The Brazilian recently let UFC president Dana White know that she is just waiting for a call.
