Salkilld defeated Mateusz Gamrot by rear-naked choke at 4:25 of Round 1 in Saturday’s UFC Vegas 120 main event. The stoppage at Meta APEX in Las Vegas gave the Australian his biggest victory and kept his UFC record perfect.

Salkilld Hurts Gamrot, Then Beats Him In The Grappling
Gamrot opened with the forward movement expected from an experienced wrestler, but Salkilld found his chin during the first exchange that changed the round. The ranked prospect stayed composed when the fight moved into grappling range rather than giving Gamrot a route back into the contest.
Late in the round, Salkilld secured Gamrot’s back against the fence and threaded his arm under the chin. Gamrot tried to defend the position, but the rear-naked choke forced the tap with 35 seconds left in Round 1.

Salkilld improves to 13-1 overall and 6-0 in the UFC. He now owns five knockout wins, five submissions and eight first-round finishes. Five of his six Octagon victories have ended in the opening round.

The 26-year-old entered ranked No. 12 after knocking out Beneil Dariush in Round 1 at UFC Perth. He specifically requested Gamrot because he wanted the hardest available matchup. Submitting the No. 8 lightweight should move him into the division’s top 10.
Gamrot falls to 26-5 with one no contest. The former KSW double champion entered after submitting Esteban Ribovics, but Salkilld stopped his attempt to build consecutive victories. The result also completed the matchup first announced as Salkilld’s biggest test.
