Piotr Hallmann failed a drug test vs. Gleison Tibau

If I was in charge of the UFC, I would make MMA more like pro wrestling. MMA right now is in a bland spot. It’s over saturated to the point where I myself, a person who essentially is paid to write about the sport, couldn’t name more than half the names on the UFC Sweden card. This is a problem whether the UFC wants to admit it or not.

First and foremost, Conor McGregor, a guy that the UFC wants to push to the moon. He’s a good enough speaker, he’s been exciting in all of his fights in the UFC so far and he’s very charismatic. Now, I’ve been hearing many people clamor for him to get a title shot, which quite frankly, wouldn’t be best for business. What I would do is have Conor McGregor face lower level talent and keep having him knock them out. Build him up and better yet, build up the hype for Aldo vs. McGregor. Sure the hardcores are excited for that fight right now and yes it would be an interesting fight, but it’s not anywhere near the level it should be throughout the industry. McGregor for as interesting as he is, has only been in the limelight for about a year. By all accounts, this fight should be huge, quite possibly one of the few fights at the lighter weight classes that could draw, why make it happen the MOMENT you can. You need to build up new stars like you cook ribs, low and slow. You don’t put ribs in at 400 degrees and cook them in an hour and you don’t give title shots to stars right away.

Secondly, I’d make the use for more gimmick titles, such as the TV title. The person I would envision carrying the TV title would be no other than Gleison Tibau who currently sits tied for the 4th most fights of all time. While Gleison isn’t exactly a marketable fighter, it would be a show of good will to him. He’s been with the company for so long, if anyone should have it first, it should be him. He may not hold the TV title for long but he’s a guy who wouldn’t put the title out of commission which seemingly happens all the time now.

Speaking of Gleison Tibau, he recently won a decision over Piotr Hallmann. Report came out today that Piotr has failed a drug test for Drostanolone and will be suspended for 9 months.
