Petr Yan believes Aljamain Sterling will fade into oblivion after their rematch at UFC 273.
Back in March 2021, Yan put the UFC Bantamweight Championship on the line against Sterling. Yan was on a roll and gaining a ton of steam in the fight before landing an illegal knee to the face of a downed Sterling. This led to a disqualification and Sterling was awarded the 135-pound gold.
Petr Yan Thinks Aljamain Sterling Will Be Irrelevant
Petr Yan spoke to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour and expressed his belief that he will defeat Aljamain Sterling in the rematch and send him into irrelevancy.
“Just imagine, he’s tired of thinking about me and I didn’t even think about him at all. He had this long layoff, I had a different opponent. I fought and now he’s my next target that I”m gonna beat up. After the fight Saturday night, everyone’s gonna forget about him.”
A Different Version Of Yan
Yan went on to say that he will be a different fighter this go-around.
“No, I expect a different version of myself this Saturday. In every different way imaginable.”
Yan also said that if he beats Sterling, he’ll see what’s out there at bantamweight. He said he wants to see who the fans would like to see him fight next.
Yan recently made an offer to have Henry Cejudo and Sean O’Malley in his corner. Yan teased what’s in store for fight night and said fans will have to tune in.
UFC 273 will take place on April 9. The action will be held inside the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.
