Mike Perry Wants Robbie Lawler at UFC 245
The last time we saw “Platinum” Mike Perry in the octagon, his face literally got rearranged. A hard-fought battle against Vicente Luque resulted in a split decision loss as well as an extremely broken nose. Today, Perry’s nose is feeling much better. He spoke to the media about the injury as well as a possible matchup against Robbie Lawler.
Perry was a guest fighter in attendance for UFC Tampa last night. And of course, whenever the media has a chance to speak to Perry, they take it. Perry gave an update on his flattened nose. Also, he made his case on why he should be able to fight Robbie Lawler as a replacement for UFC 245.
Lawler Gives Nose Injury Update
When reporters asked about Perry’s nose, he replied with a deep inhalation through his nostrils.
“It’s a little loud when I use it, but I don’t really use it too often,” said Perry.
“I just hold my breath and swing real(ly) hard, and they usually..you know… disperse. They either get out the way or they run real fast. So we’ll see. I’m good though. I’m ready to fight. I’ve been training, been sparring, working, ready to fight anybody, anytime. I’ll fight right now tonight; let’s go.”
Stepping in for UFC 245
Reporters then asked Perry if he heard about Santiago Ponzinibbio being unable to compete at UFC 245. Ponzinibbio was scheduled to face Lawler but had to pull out of the bout. Perry shared his thoughts on stepping in to face Lawler in Santiago’s absence.
“Absolutely,” said Perry in regards to wanting to face Lawler. “I wanted that fight 3 years ago. Two and a half, something like that. So, if Robbie Lawler would grace me with his name on a contract, let’s go bro! Let’s put on a show. We’re gonna throw hands, it ain’t gonna be all that wrestling sh*t,” Perry continued.
“I might try to mix it up on you and change levels. Shoot a single leg, take you down, punch you a little bit. Get you disoriented.. or I might just hold tight and box.”
