UFC Middlweight Paulo Costa Refutes Steroid Claims

There has been much confusion surrounding Paulo Costa lately. The Middleweight contender attempted to clear the air, however he left more questions than answers.

This all started when Yoel Romero revealed that he was told the reason he would not be fighting Costa was due to a USADA test. It was later revealed that the issue Costa was facing was with the NYSAC. The issue stemmed from a stomach medicine Costa was taking.

Paulo Costa went on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show to discuss the situation. It was here that he tried to explain what was happening, while also being more confusing. He explained to Helwani that he is looking to return soon, again against Romero.

“Yeah, I’m ready to fight in May, or June, or July. But I want to fight very soon as possible. And I’d like to fight against Romero. But man, Romero doesn’t want to fight against nobody.”

Costa further said the UFC offered him a fight against Romero for this weekend’s Ft. Lauderdale card, but was unable to make weight. He would go on to further dispell rumours of PED troubles.

“It’s not true. Romero is a bad guy. He put this story in the air. But it’s not true. I never use steroids in my life, I never use anything to cheat the game.”

He would go on to say his NYSAC case is still open, so he could not be cleared. It is conflicting to hear that Costa is free to fight, however is still waiting for the case to close. He went on to explain the medicine he took to alleviate nausea from his weight cut.

Paulo Costa said this situation is coming to a close, so perhaps he will face Romero in the near future.
