What was Jake Paul‘s first impression of Nate Diaz? Well, that’s actually a funny story.
Long before the YouTube and boxing success, ‘The Problem Child’ was an avid MMA fan. As a kid, Paul met his hero Anderson Silva many years before he eventually squared off with the UFC legend inside the ring.
Paul On His First Time Watching Diaz
It’s a different story when it comes to Paul’s next opponent, UFC fan-favorite Nate Diaz, who he just met at their press conference on Tuesday. But, Diaz is nothing new to Paul, as it turns out the 26 year-old has been watching the Stockton superstar fight for quite some time.
“It’s funny, I actually remembered a moment the other day when I was sitting on the couch at my dad’s house in Ohio. I was probably like 14 years old, and we were watching the UFC event and I was sitting on the couch and his fight came on,” Paul told Middle Easy of his first Nate Diaz fight.
“I seen like Nate Diaz and I had a crush on [actress] Cameron Diaz at the time, and I asked my dad if that was her brother, and he said, no,” Paul laughed. “But that’s, that’s the first Nate Diaz fight that I saw.”
‘He’s A Legend In The Game’
Paul is set to box Diaz more than decade after witnessing his first fight in 2011. The big-name boxing match will take place on August 5th in the ‘Lone Star State’ of Texas.
“So, obviously he’s a legend in the game and I’m excited to be fighting him 12 years later from the couch in Ohio to here in Dallas, Texas.”
