Paige VanZant felt like her husband’s UFC debut win was better than all of the victories in her MMA career.

A proud wife

Speaking to TMZ Sports, “12 Gauge” enthusiastically reflected on her husband, Austin Vanderford’s spectacular UFC debut performance against Nikolay Veretennikov at UFC Seattle. For VanZant, her elation for her hubby’s win may have exceeded what she feels for own success as a fighter.

“Oh my gosh! Yeah, my husband made his UFC debut on like four days notice. Won with a TKO in the second round and honestly, it almost felt more special than any of my wins,” VanZant said. “Just seeing him in that moment. He’s my best friend. Seeing him finally make the walk was incredible,” VanZant opened up.

Paige will help Austin to be ready

VanZant is currently gearing up for her slap fighting match against Mikael-Michelle Brown at Power Slap 12 this weekend. However, she is prompted to train with Vanderford, who is staying ready in case he gets called up for another short-notice fight.

“Now that he’s in, he’s in the UFC, it’s just playing that game of who they want him to be matched up with and going from there but of course we got home from the fight and I’m preparing for Power Slap and he’s been training with me for this entire week, and all the coaches are like, ‘Hey, you need to take a few days off’ But he’s like, ‘No, if I get another short notice, I gotta be ready at any second,'” VanZant revealed.

Prior to his UFC debut, Vanderford last fought at LFA 194 this past October where he finished Luis Victor Romero via first-round TKO. On the other hand, VanZant will be looking to bounce back after her last Power Slap match with Chelsea Dodson ended in a draw.
