Paddy Pimblett Says Sean O’Malley Fight Will Never Happen: ‘There’s 20 Pounds Between Us’

Despite how much fans keep asking for the matchup, Pimblett believes a fight with O'Malley will never happen due to the size difference.

Paddy Pimblett Sean O'Malley

Don’t expect to see Paddy Pimblett fight Sean O’Malley anytime soon.

A fight between the pair is one many fans would like to see given their styles as well as their personalities.

They’ve even exchanged words in the past leading many to believe a matchup could potentially take place in the future.

But despite the fan interest, “The Baddy” doesn’t seem optimistic for one reason and one reason alone — the difference in size between them.

“The one I always get is, ‘we want to see you fight Sugar Sean O’Malley.’ I’m like, there’s 20 pounds between us. How are we meant to fight?” Pimblett said in an interview with Brendan Schaub. “I could never make 145 again. It’s not happening. … I’m going the other way, I’m going to 170.

“There’s no way that fight happens but it still gets tweeted to me, multiple times a week.”

Paddy Pimblett Not Serious About 170 Move

Of course, Pimblett was a former 145er while O’Malley could easily move up and face him there.

But as Pimblett stated, he’s too big to make the cut to featherweight now, and part of that is because of how much he eats outside of training camp.

Despite all that, the Liverpool native will probably not end up fighting at 170 in the future because he knows there’s a size difference there which will be a disadvantage for him.

“I’m not big enough to fight at 170,” he added. “When I was in New York for the Usman-Covington card, I bumped into Derek Brunson, Anthony Smith, Uriah Hall and every one of them said, ‘do you fight at 170?’

“‘I’m a 155er’ and they were like what? I’m the same height as Brunson, I think. They don’t seem too much bigger than me, but I know for a fact they would be if I’m in the cage with them.”

For now, Pimblett looks like he will only be competing at 155 pounds for the foreseeable future.
