Oscar De La Hoya‘s opinion of Dana White has changed over time.
Once friends with the UFC CEO, things couldn’t be any more different between the boxer-turned-promoter and White as they are now heated rivals, bickering businessmen or whatever you want to call it, the fact is they don’t like each other.
De La Hoya’s made numerous headlines for his comments on White over the years as so has White, with the UFC boss unloading on De La Hoya from time to time, saying “cocaine isn’t cheap” when asked about De La Hoya’s planned return to the boxing ring in 2020.
De La Hoya Takes Shots At White, Brings Family Into The Mix
Of course, that’s just scratching the surface of what has been said between the combat sports figures with White catching the latest stray as De La Hoya mentioned his family on Club Shay Shay.
“What does he talk about me, the coke and the pantyhose?” De La Hoya said of White’s past comments, referencing a photo of him in fishnet pantyhose. “So what? 15 years ago? Like, so what and what, that I don’t have friends? It’s absurd.
“I mean, when a guy slaps his wife in public, when his mom writes a book about him saying that he’s a douche, his own mom… that’s all I have to say. I don’t have to say anything more.”
De La Hoya mentions White’s wife, Anne, who he returned a slap to during a New Years’ Eve party in 2022 and White’s mom, June, who wrote a unauthorized biography of her son titled “Dana White, King of MMA,” citing “he’s not a good person” in a 2011 interview (h/t: MMA Junkie).
De La Hoya Says White Wanted To “Bury” Him
White and De La Hoya’s relationship wasn’t always sour with the bosses’ going way back. What went wrong between the “pretty cool” friends? Boxing’s De La Hoya said things started to go south whenever he crossed sports, promoting his first and only MMA event in 2018. De La Hoya’s Golden Boy MMA didn’t stay up for long, folding after the main event saw Tito Ortiz take on a 48 year-old Chuck Liddell.
“We were actually cool,” De La Hoya said of his lost friendship with White. “When I when I first thought about getting into the MMA, I strongly feel that he just wanted to bury me, not have competition. He started talking s*** about me because, literally, I don’t even think about it. We’re in different sports. He does his thing. I do my thing. Just because I wanted to start a little competition, He gets all, ‘oh… let me scream louder.’
“I don’t know why it started,” the former boxer said. “I mean, the promotional thing. We were actually pretty cool. But anyway, it’s all good.”
