Sean O’Malley isn’t counting out a rematch with Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera

The two bantamweights first met at UFC 252, where Vera would stop O’Malley with strikes after ‘Sugar’ suffered a leg injury. Since then, both rivals have had much success. O’Malley finds himself locked in with Petr Yan following three wins and Vera is very well a top contender after winning four straight fights himself.

O’Malley vs. Vera 2 Is Getting Closer To Happening

While O’Malley isn’t avenging his loss to Vera anytime soon, the UFC superstar says a rematch with Vera is getting closer to reality with how things are turning out.

“Ever since that Chito fight happened at UFC 252, [people have been saying] ‘oh, you gotta get the rematch’. I win a fight, he wins a fight. ‘Get the rematch, get the rematch’. I’m like, ‘no, no, no, no, no, let’s wait’. This is a big fight,” O’Malley said on his podcast. “I believe me and Chito will be a massive fight. It’s getting closer.”

“That Is A Massive F*cking Fight”

Following their first meeting, ‘The Sugar Show’ has been keeping a close eye on ‘Chito’. He has predicted Vera to win in his latest outings and believes he has done enough to warrant a part two between each other. However, that will have to wait as O’Malley has a potential title shot on the line at UFC 280.

Whatever the case may be, O’Malley sees the magnitude being big for a potential fight with Vera.

“Yeah, I think he’s done enough to earn the rematch,” O’Malley continued. “But it’s hard to say because I beat Petr [Yan], I get a title shot. The only reason I would take a title shot over the Chito fight would be because I would get guaranteed a lot more money for a title fight per my contract.

“I go fight Chito, I get paid whatever. I go fight for title, it’s significantly more. So I would take a title shot over the Chito rematch. But imagine I’d go out there, boom, beat Petr. Boom, beat [winner of Aljamain Sterling vs. TJ Dillashaw] Boom, me and Chito rematch. Pay-per-view. You’re telling me that doesn’t do good numbers? That’s a big fight, dude. That is a massive f*cking fight.”
