‘Suga’ doesn’t get all the hoopla going on with Aljamain Sterling.

After defending his title against Henry Cejudo earlier this month, the UFC Bantamweight Champion already has a date set for his next fight versus colorful contender Sean O’Malley. It will be at UFC 292 in Boston, Massachusetts, scheduled for August 19th.

Sterling On The State Of Things

Sterling isn’t a big fan of this rather quick turnaround, however. The champ has cited he isn’t at 100% and that it will be a fight in itself to make it out to the Octagon.

“I’m still injured with my legs banged up,” Sterling said on his podcast (h/t: MMA Fighting). “My bicep still sucks, supposed to get another MRI on that. I’m trying to get to this fight in August. I’m trying to see if we can make it happen, but my leg is still super sensitive to the touch. I hope I’m not ruining anything by me saying that. But guys, I did just fight.”

‘Suga’ Gives Sterling Some Advice

O’Malley has since responded to Sterling’s comments about their title fight potentially being in jeopardy.

“You did just fight, but look at Izzy [Israel Adesanya]. Motherf*cker fought four times in 12 months… you have four months,” O’Malley said on his podcast.

“It was four months from the fight. Take two months off, heal up, and then train hard for two months. It ain’t f*cking science. Or is it? Math plus two.

Having the rest of May and then June, July along with a good portion of August, O’Malley thinks that’s plenty good for ‘Funkmaster’ to return for another five-round fight.

“Yeah [it’s enough time]. It’s called discipline.”

We’ll see if it’s enough time for the defending champion, come UFC 292.
