UFC BW Champ Sean O’Malley Claims He’d Beat Conor McGregor: ‘Not An Easy Fight’

O'Malley: "I wouldn't call out somebody if I didn't think I could beat him in a fight..."

Sean O’Malley isn’t going to let Conor McGregor off the hook anytime soon.

What started off like a friendship has now boiled down into a rivalry between two of the UFC’s biggest stars as McGregor changed his tune on O’Malley following boxer Ryan Garcia’s positive drug test. McGregor went after Garcia for testing positive for performance-enhancer Ostarine with O’Malley also catching a stray as the UFC Bantamweight Champion popped for that banned substance in 2018 and 2019.

O’Malley Went On ‘A Little Rampage’ After McGregor’s Laughing Emoji

In his latest installment with McGregor, O’Malley argued that his positive test could have been a result of someone with Ostarine in their system transferring it to him via their sweat with McGregor laughing off the claim on ‘X’.

“I was excited to go on my rant about the Ostarine because I was like, finally, like, it’s been 4 years. This is how it happened,” O’Malley said on his YouTube channel. “And Conor has does his little f****** bump and puts a laughy face and ooh, that one drove me a little crazy. I’m like, really, motherf*****? This is science. I posted the scientific page it was on, the science about it, which was good, like, people were like, ‘Damn, that’s legit.’ I think Conor deleted the tweet, but I went on a little rampage…”

McGregor vs. O’Malley?

O’Malley is set to defend his bantamweight title for a second time when he meets Merab Dvalishvili at Noche UFC this September at The Sphere. But, that won’t stop “Suga” from pursuing fights in other divisions. O’Malley’s already made it known he’d like to fight fellow champ Ilia Topuria at featherweight, now saying he’d be open to fighting McGregor at a higher weight class.

McGregor has captured titles at 145 and 155 with his return likely coming at 170lbs, not that O’Malley cares too much about the size difference that “The Notorious” has on him – a longtime 135er.

“When I look at a professional fighter who weighs 190, Conor probably weighs 190 [or] 185. I look at that. I’m like, okay. I’m realistic. I weigh 155, 160. Like, there’s weight classes for a reason. I’m not gonna chirp those guys. I will chirp Conor because I do believe I could beat Conor in a fight,” O’Malley added.

“I’m not just saying that. I think stylistically, I could beat Conor in a fight. It’s not an easy fight. I’m not saying [it would be an easy fight]. But I wouldn’t call out somebody if I didn’t think I could beat him in a fight. I think I’d beat Conor in a fight.”

“Talk S***, Let’s Do It…”

In his own made-up tale of the tape, O’Malley said: “I’m tall, Conor’s 5’7″. I’m 6’3″. There’s pictures… he’s thick, but he’s short.” Although, that’s not accurate as McGregor is only 5’9″ – two inches shorter than the 5’11” O’Malley.

Weight classes apart from each other, O’Malley believes his striking skills would come on top against McGregor, a knockout artist and talented striker in his own right, if they were ever to settle their banter and fight inside the UFC Octagon – though that’s not likely to happen anytime soon.

“I don’t think I just, boom, put him [out with] one shot. It’s when you get hit with 3, boom, boom, boom, and then you get hit with a little walk around for a little bit [rocked]… 5 round, 25 minutes… Talk s***, et’s do it.”

Conor McGregor has not fought since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. The former two-division champion was scheduled to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 but had to withdraw from the welterweight fight a few weeks out due to a broken toe.
