Okami is one step closer to finally getting his title shot

There’s one thing we discovered about Mark Munoz tonight at UFC Live: Jones vs. Matyushenko. If he makes the coherent decision to go for a single-leg takedown, not even repeated hammer fists to the skull can make him change his mind. The dude wants his single-leg just as bad as Lindsay Lohan wants to get out of whatever Los Angeles detention facility she’s in.

Yushin Okami just elevated another notch in the UFC middleweight ranks which makes him virtually ‘next in line’ to get a title shot. At least that’s what Dana White suggested in a recent interview last week. Granted, Okami may be the only guy in the UFC who’s won nine of his eleven fights without getting a title shot.

If Joe Silva assembles a 185lb contender bout between Vitor Belfort and Yushin Okami, I’m sure someone out there will call up their friend and start the conversation with ‘Dude, I told you so’. If this happens, please don’t be that guy. We all knew it was going to happen. You don’t belong to some esoteric tribe of people that can read Joe Silva’s thoughts. In this scenario, ‘that guy’ will be my old roommate OB, a guy that constantly texts me at 3am just to express his disgust that Brett Rogers was given a title shot at Ubereem even those he lost his previous fight to Fedor. Props to Okami on his huge win and hopefully, we’ll see him headline a UFC card in the very near future.
