NYPD Steps In After UFC 322 Brawl

The melee reportedly began before the main card of UFC 322 when Danis approached an area near Makhachev’s team. Zaynukov and several others responded, sparking a confrontation that escalated quickly. While UFC CEO Dana White announced that Danis is banned from future UFC events, no criminal charges have yet been filed by the organization. Mayor Adams, however, stressed that the NYPD will conduct an independent investigation.
The tension between Danis and Makhachev’s camp has deep roots. In 2018, Danis, then part of Conor McGregor’s team, was involved in post-fight chaos after Khabib Nurmagomedov’s victory over McGregor at UFC 229. Nurmagomedov leapt out of the cage targeting Danis, which resulted in fines and suspensions for multiple parties. Despite seven years passing, the conflict appears unresolved.
Dillon Danis, now 32, recently made his return to MMA after six years, winning the Misfits 22 main event by submitting Warren Spencer in just 15 seconds to claim the inaugural 175-pound title. He is slated to defend that championship against Anthony Taylor on December 20 in Dubai.
