  • The bantamweight champ took swipe at Nunes over her featherweight title

Julianna Pena and Amanda Nunes have just finished taping The Ultimate Fighter Season 30. Both celebrated UFC champions coached their respective teams and will be fearing up for a title fight rematch soon. Ahead of their second showdown, Pena already spiced things up as she recently took a dig at Nunes.

The “Lioness” toned down a bit

In a recent interview with The Schmo, Pena divulged that she noticed something different in the aura of Nunes during their rivalry in TUF. According to “The Venezuelan Vixen,” she could tell that the Brazilian displayed “a little bit of a sad bravado” that tells a lot about her desire to reclaim her title.

“I would say that she’s a little bit more high-maintenance than I had originally anticipated, that’s for sure,” Peña revealed. “I would definitely say that there’s a little bit of a sad bravado about her that I think she’s really wanting to come back and get her belt back. So we had some words, we had some choice words. You’re going to have to watch the show.”

Useless champ?

Pena also reiterated that Nunes’ women’s featherweight title makes no sense as there’s no other fighter in the division.

“Let’s talk about this for a second,” Peña said of Nunes’ belt. “So Holly (Holm) and Germaine (de Randamie) both said that they’re not going back to featherweight at 145 and they’re going to stay true bantamweights at 135. Megan Anderson retired. Felicia Spencer retired. Can you name anybody else in the division other than Amanda?”

“She’s a champ in the ’45 division of who? She says that she’s still, you know, the champ of a division of one person. So that’s nice,” she pointed out.

Nunes lost her bantamweight title to Pena at UFC 269. Apart from “Lioness,” Pena also admitted that she still dreams about fighting former 135-pound queen Ronda Rousey.
