Nate Diaz called out Max Holloway for holding the BMF title. He posted a picture of Holloway with the belt, claiming it’s his. Diaz, who fought for the first BMF title in 2019, hasn’t competed in the UFC since 2022. His challenge hints at a return to face Holloway for the symbolic belt.
Diaz Challenges Holloway
Diaz posted on social media, saying:
“This guy cool but he keeps wearing my belt.” He included an angry emoji to show his irritation.
The post followed Holloway’s BMF title defense against Dustin Poirier at UFC 318 on July 19, 2025

Diaz lost to Jorge Masvidal for the inaugural BMF title at UFC 244 in 2019 via doctor stoppage after three rounds. He still feels the belt belongs to him.
Holloway, a 33-year-old from Hawaii, has a 26-8 MMA record, with 22-8 in the UFC. He won the BMF title by knocking out Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 in April 2024 and defended it against Poirier at UFC 318. He lost the featherweight title to Ilia Topuria at UFC 308 in October 2024.
The BMF title, a special non-division belt, was created for the Diaz-Masvidal fight. Holloway aims to keep fighting at lightweight.
Diaz, a 40-year-old from California, has a 21-13 MMA record, with 16-11 in the UFC. His last UFC fight was a submission win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 in September 2022. Outside the UFC, he lost a boxing match to Jake Paul in August 2023 and beat Masvidal by decision in July 2024.
Diaz started in WEC, winning the lightweight title before joining the UFC in 2007 with a win over Junior Assuncao. His grappling and durability led to wins over Conor McGregor and Michael Johnson. Holloway began in regional promotions, entering the UFC in 2012 with a win over Poirier. His striking beat Jose Aldo and Brian Ortega.
No agreement exists for Diaz to return to the UFC. Holloway is eyeing lightweight matchups, possibly against Charles Oliveira. Dana White hasn’t addressed Diaz’s callout. A Diaz-Holloway BMF fight would be a major draw if it happens.
