Nate Diaz Opens Up About His UFC Return Against Pettis

Nate Diaz is set to make his UFC return, at UFC 241. He finally gave his first interview in some time, to talk about his return bout against Anthony Pettis.

This is the first fight for Diaz since losing a majority decision to Conor McGregor, nearly three years ago. Since then, Diaz has flirted with the idea of a return, yet has never made it to the cage. He was even officially signed to face Dustin Poirier, but that fell through; partly because of Diaz, partly because of Poirier.

However, he is finally set for a return, against Anthony Pettis. Pettis is fresh off his welterweight debut, a knockout win over Stephen Thompson.

Diaz spoke to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, to discuss his return, and why he made the fight with Pettis happen. (via Sherdog)

“I think it is the best fight. He is coming off of a good win and he’s one of the top guys, one of the better guys in the division. Most entertaining fighter in the UFC, I like that.

it’s a guy I actually enjoy watching over the rest of these fighters. Everyone is getting boring, the fight game. If I’m going to take part in any fights, I want a fight that is interesting to not only me but to the fight fan. If I’m a fight fan I want to see an interesting fight, not a boring fight.”

Nate Diaz seems to be excited for this contest. It was reported initially, that it was Diaz’s camp that set up the bout, not the UFC. So all signs point to the bout actually taking place, so long as the MMA Gods are pleased.

UFC 241 takes place August 17th. It is headlined by Cormier vs Miocic 2, with Diaz vs Pettis as the co-main event.
