Nate Diaz and Mike Perry finally went face-to-face in public, and the first staredown stayed respectful.
The two veterans met at the latest MVP MMA 1 press conference ahead of their May 16 fight in Inglewood, California. For a matchup built around two names known for tension, violence, and unpredictable moments, this one stayed calm. No extra drama, no fake shove, no yelling for the cameras. They stood there, looked each other over, and left the chaos for fight night.
That still says something because both men come into this event with reputations built far beyond a normal booking. Diaz has been one of MMA’s biggest anti-establishment stars for years, while Perry rebuilt himself outside the UFC and turned bare-knuckle fighting into his lane. MiddleEasy already covered Perry’s side of the build when he discussed a possible UFC return while talking about the Diaz matchup.

Nate Diaz and Mike Perry arrive with very different recent resumes
Diaz’s last MMA fight was his September 2022 win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 279, where he finished the bout with a fourth-round guillotine. After leaving the UFC, he crossed into boxing and dropped a decision to Jake Paul in August 2023. That makes this Perry fight his first scheduled MMA appearance since beating Ferguson. MiddleEasy also covered Diaz’s route back when he explained why he chose this Netflix-backed return instead of a third fight with Conor McGregor.
Perry’s last UFC fight came in April 2021, when he lost a decision to Daniel Rodriguez. Since then, he has done some of the best work of his career in BKFC. He stopped Luke Rockhold at BKFC 41 in April 2023, then beat Eddie Alvarez by corner stoppage at BKFC 56 in December 2023 to strengthen his standing as one of the promotion’s biggest attractions. MiddleEasy also covered that run when Perry beat Alvarez in a violent BKFC finish.
The names alone already gave this fight juice. Now it has the right timeline behind it too. Diaz is trying to step back into MMA after his Ferguson win and Jake Paul boxing detour. Perry is bringing in more recent combat momentum from bare-knuckle. The respectful faceoff was quiet, but the matchup itself still has plenty of bite.
