Mya Lesnar, daughter of former WWE and UFC champion Brock Lesnar, claimed the NCAA women’s shot put title at the Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 12, 2025, in Eugene, Oregon. Her first throw of 19.01 meters secured the victory, marking her second NCAA championship after winning the indoor title in 2024.
The 23-year-old Colorado State athlete has emerged as a top talent, carrying forward her family’s athletic legacy with a dominant performance that outshone her competitors.
Mya Lesnar’s Path to Glory
Born on April 10, 2002, in Alexandria, Minnesota, Mya grew up competing in volleyball and track. She won a Minnesota state shot put title in high school. After starting her college career at Arizona State University, she transferred to Colorado State in 2022, where she trained under coach Brian Bedard.
Mya set a Colorado State shot put record with an 18.50-meter throw at the Mines Alumni Classic in December 2023. On May 3, 2025, she achieved a personal best of 19.60 meters at the Doug Max Invitational, the top NCAA women’s shot put mark of the year. She also won the Mountain West Conference shot put title with an 18.61-meter throw, earning her fourth straight conference crown.
At the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Mya’s opening throw of 19.01 meters (62 feet, 4.5 inches) led the field. She held her lead throughout, finishing over five inches ahead of Illinois’ Abria Smith, who threw 18.85 meters. Mya’s second throw of 61 feet, 11 inches also outdistanced Smith’s best effort, showcasing her consistency.
Her victory marked Colorado State’s first outdoor national title since Loree Smith’s hammer throw win in 2005. Mya, a four-time first-team All-American, has not lost an outdoor shot put event all season, cementing her status as the nation’s top thrower.

Brock Lesnar’s Athletic Influence
Mya’s father, Brock Lesnar, won an NCAA heavyweight wrestling championship at the University of Minnesota in 2000. A two-time All-American, he later became a seven-time WWE champion and UFC heavyweight champion in 2008, defending the title twice. Brock’s strength and competitive drive are evident in Mya’s performances.
Brock has expressed pride in his daughter, saying, “No matter what I do for the rest of my life, I’ll always be Mya Lynn Lesnar’s father first and foremost. I love Mya very much… I have been a blessed man because of her.” Mya credits her father for teaching humility, saying, “The biggest thing he taught me was do not let your trophies or anything you’ve done change you as a person… be successful but also to not have an ego.”
Mya’s journey began with a standout high school career at Alexandria Area High School, where she set a Central Lakes Conference Indoor Track Championship Meet record in 2019. At Arizona State, she competed in shot put and hammer throw, with a top shot put mark of 17.01 meters. After transferring to Colorado State, she won the Mountain West Indoor weight throw title in 2023 with a 20.68-meter throw.
In 2024, Mya finished sixth at the Paris Olympics with a 19.01-meter throw, matching her NCAA-winning distance. Her personal best of 19.60 meters would have earned a bronze medal in Paris. She was named the 2024 Sportswoman of Colorado College Track and Field Athlete of the Year and Mountain West Female Athlete of the Year.
Mya’s NCAA title solidifies her as a leading contender for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, though she has not confirmed her plans. Her consistent throws above 18 meters and her personal best of 19.60 meters position her as a top global talent.
As the first Colorado State athlete in two decades to win an outdoor national title, Mya continues to build her own legacy.
